#INLAND Fashion Project landing in Hong Kong in January

The biggest introduction of Finnish Designers in the fast-growing Asian fashion markets

(HONG KONG,13 January, 2015) The biggest introduction of Finnish fashion in Asia is happening during the Hong Kong Fashion Week hosted by HKTDC on 19-22 January, 2015. Organized by Finland-Hong Kong Trade Association #INLAND Hong Kong Fashion Project gathers 10 talented up-and-coming fashion designers to showcase unique vision of design and internationally praised quality. #INLAND’s showcase includes, among other events, the department in Hong Kong Fashion Week at Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre, Fashion Parade, and special performances by Saara Aalto, a multitalented Finnish singer.

#INLAND started when a bunch of Finnish designers got together and decided to work jointly on a fun and innovative project that would highlight a personal touch in every designer item and encourage thinking outside of the box. #INLAND presents fashion for women and men: shoes, bags, street-fashion and as well more classical products. The brands include Katri Niskanen, ELLE Awards Winner 2014 - The Designer of the Year in Finland & Finland's first Project Runway winner, FINSK with avant-garde yet supremely wearable shoe designs and Dusty Marjut Uotila with unique & modern menswear known for its presentation of artistic signature pieces.

Singer Saara Aalto is accompanying the group to bring in extra Finnish flavor to the #INLAND Hong Kong Fashion Project. She has gained fame in Finland for her success in Finland’s Got Talent (2007), Eurovision Song Contest (2011, Finnish national selections) and The Voice of Finland (2012). Currently, Saara Aalto is gaining positive recognition in China as well, being one of the most famous Finnish artists in the country. She performed after releasing her 3rd album together with the world known tenor José Carreras in Shanghai. In June 2013 she was the closing act at the award night of the International Film Festival in Shanghai. The show was viewed all over Asia and reached 1,4 billion viewers. Due to her success in China, Saara released a Chinese language album Ai De Zhu Fu in September 2013.

Finnish fashion has long been dependent on domestic demand and designers have mainly worked alone. However, the small size of the Finnish market and the increasing interest of overseas countries forces designers to open doors to wider mutual collaboration and international markets. Johanna Heikkinen, vice chairman of Finland-Hong Kong Trade Association, acclaims “I personally believe that the future of fashion and design is in Asia. I am so happy we’ve been able to gather such a fantastic group of rising stars representing inspiring and innovative fashion from Finland to the audience in Hong Kong. I believe that this launch is a great start for deeper expansion of Finnish designs in Hong Kong. For sure, valuable collaborations with local actors will be developed.” Designer Sirpa Kalliola from Viona Blu, accessory brand dedicated to handmade work with fish leather, agrees: “We are thrilled to be part of Hong Kong Fashion Week. We hope to penetrate into the Asian markets, and Hong Kong is a starting point for us. It is one the major metropolitans in the world– it is truly important for us to be there. The culture and the atmosphere there is very interesting and fascinating. At the Hong Kong Fashion week, we hope to connect with the local fashion community.”
